This volume will seek to honour and explore the concept and person of Hekate, from earliest origins to the present day. There is a very great deal of information about Hekate available today –on the web, in various publications.
This volume does not seek to collate that information.
Rather, it seeks to bring something new to it.
To wit:
Sound, scholarly work on Hekate, as seen, understood and known by the Greeks.
Sound, scholarly work on Hekate in the present day, and all times in between.
Devotional work – prose and poetry.
Scholarly need not mean academic – it need not be festooned with footnotes (though these are welcomed). However, it does mean original (works which are not simply a rehash of a thousand self-referential web pages), it means based on sources that do not all rely each upon the other.
Nor does “scholarly” mean that personal view points are not welcome – scholars, too, have opinions and relationships with deity.
Submissions are welcomed from established authors and those who have never published before.

This book, much like Pan himself, is liminal. It is scholarly in many
instances and on multiple levels as well as entertaining and eminently
readable. It is not, however a book about the rituals and invocations of
the goat foot god. There are other books devoted to these subjects, and you
will find many of them listed in the 9+ pages of bibliography.

Diotima has written books and articles on a wide range of topics ranging
from mythology to contemporary fiction. This is her second offering to come
out under the auspices of Bibliotheca Alexandrina and, like all their
offerings to date, deserves a spot in your library.

The author raises a number of questions in this book, but makes very little
effort to answer them. This is not because of a lack of understanding, but
because of a need for personal understanding. How she understands and
relates to Pan is not as important as how the reader understands and relates
to him.

Various perceptions of Pan, from those of "ancient Greece" to modern
philosophers are explored and explained (as much as possible), and their
relevance to modern day life is looked at as well. For such a small book,
there is a wealth of thought contained herein.

Like all of the offerings from Bibliotheca Alexandrina thus far, the
production values of this book are excellent. It is well-made and a quality
product. Check out their website (www.neosalexandria.org) to learn more
about this organization and their goals.

I am proud to have this book, and the others from Bibliotheca Alexandrian,
in my library. I am sure that you will share that pleasure.

Diotima shows us Pan in all his glory. I would have given 5 stars except the style is a little disjointed with all the parenthetical asides; but then I do that myself (see below).
I also now have this mental image of Pan dashing wildly up and down the mountainside cornering unsuspecting nanny goats and having his way with them. The phrase 'boinking the nanny' (Jude Law anyone?) takes on a whole new meaning. My wyrd images notwithstanding, I liked the book.

There is nothing quite like this book out there yet, a very unique exploration of the god, with a strong historical foundation but still personal and accessible. The author examines Pan from various angles, ancient and modern, without trying to unfairly nail him down to any one definition - which only entices the reader to learn more, to experience Pan themselves. A great book both for those who have exhausted the few other resources on the god, and for those looking to be introduced to Pan for the first time.

Ok, I don't know who you are and I very much doubt you're on my friends list. But the rant is going here.

Mucking about with my shields is NOT on. Sure, you (whomever you are) were powerful enough to invade them. And I was too tired to care. Whomever you are, you did a pretty good job.

But FFS - get a life and find something useful to do. You accomplished nothing other than making me more tired today than I absolutely had to be (thanks ever so much), and you spent a great deal of energy doing it.

Go outside, take a walk, find a partner (however fleeting) and do something more interesting with your nights than this.
